I have been diagnosed with something called Bitemytongueitis. It is due to the continued biting of ones tongue in order to keep oneself from saying something inappropriate, manipulative, controlling, critical or something that is just plain rude. I am afraid it is self-inflicted. There is treatment and the condition is curable. Wonder if you have Bitemytongueitis?
Symptoms include but are not limited to:
-pain or numbness in the tip of ones tongue
-bad taste in your mouth
-sensitivity to sour, bitter, or salty foods or drinks
-difficulty kissing due to pain
-an inability to speak, especially certain phrases like "Wouldn't it be better if...., Don't you think we should..., and Why didn't you..."
-questions from others regarding your inability to speak or your pronounced speech impediment
-concern of others that you may be suffering some kind of stroke or laryngitis
-extreme irrational fear that things aren't going the way you had planned
Treatment plan:
-exercise the filter between the brain and mouth (this requires a lot of practice)
-popsicles and/or ice chips for the pain
-trust spouse to make good decisions
-have faith that your spouse wants what is best for you
-understand that your way may be great, but is not the only way to do something
-appreciate the differences of others
-allow others to make mistakes and learn from them
-surround yourself with positive, supportive friends
Possible Side Effects of treatment:
-a happier, more confident spouse
-a more intimate marriage relationship
-mutual respect and understanding
-children who are not afraid to try new things
-closer friendships
-a peaceful existence even in the face of difficulty
Bitemytongueitis has similar symptoms and treatment as Biteinnercheekerosis, Clenchjawemia, and Griteetharia. Be aware that the side effects of treatment are generally positive, so keep a positive outlook on the process of your disease.
I have been assured that my disease is curable, but may take years to completely disappear and may reappear and need further treatment. Thank you in advance for your prayers and support.
Oh Bea - I am so sorry to hear it - I suffer from footinmymouth disease and have for years. The treatment is painful and often requires repeated applications.
ReplyDeleteGood luck!

Those lips look lush and not a bite in sight. I know sorry, your post is so tongue in cheek. Can't give you a cure, still suffering myself. Hope it's better one of these days.
ReplyDeleteYea, I am pretty sure that my lips don't look like that when I am biting my tongue:) Some day, right?
DeleteDear, dear Bea, I am so sorry to hear of our affliction...good luck with the treatment and here's to a speedy recovery. I, too, am in recovery, not sure if I will ever be totally cured! I guess you can be grateful that you don't have Runoffatthemouth Syndrome;-).

Deletehahaha that was funny. thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteI hear a good healthy dose of "May I ..." seems to help this condition. As one alleviates the need for the other.

DeleteHello my name is Lucy...and I was born without a filter between my brain and mouth....it is a birth defect of sorts.....and I have yet to sell Ryan on the fact that it indeed exists ;)

Bea
Well this is a problem! LOL Bea.
ReplyDeleteThe good news is that I too had this terrible disease and while I did not have the benefit of your excellent treatment plan, I did find that either the pain lessened over time or I perhaps stopped biting so much.
Treatment continues of course...
