My daughter: "Mommy, is he talking to his mommy?"
Me: "No baby, he is probably talking to his girlfriend. They sound like they might break up."
My daughter: "Why?" (her favorite question these days)
Me: "Sounds like they aren't talking to each other," said distractedly while driving.
My daughter: "Why not?" seeming completely incredulous.
Me: "Because it is hard sometimes"
My daughter: "No it's not! You just open your mouth and talk," she said with complete and absolute certainty.
Me: After a thoughtful pause, "You are right, baby." While thinking...if only life stayed as easy as when you were four years old.
It just isn't that easy...but it should be.
Your daughter give excellent advice. I'll try to remember it, but as you said, it isn't that easy.
ReplyDeleteIt should be...Love the wisdom of little ones. About a year ago, my then 4 year old grand-daughter said to me....she had helped me clean up after a crafting session, when i thanked her ..she said....grandma you always help me...besides people helping people..that is what the world is about. If only!

This is so brilliant Bea, thanks for sharing ... so simple yet so true. Out of the mouths of babes :)

We learn how to shut down and clam up pretty early on in life. How different our relationships would be if we took your daughter's advice.
ReplyDeleteI'll leave this for you. This is the original by Bob Dylan that was reworked my Rod Stewart:
ReplyDeleteMay God's bless and keep you always,
May your wishes always come true,
May you always do for others
And let others do for you.
May you build a ladder to the stars
And climb on every rung,
May you stay forever young.
May you grow up to be righteous,
May you grow up to be true,
May you always know the truth
And see the lights surrounding you.
May you always be courageous,
Stand upright and be strong,
May you stay forever young,
Forever young, forever young,
May you stay forever young.
May your hands always be busy,
May your feet always be swift,
May you have a strong foundation
When the winds of changes shift.
May your heart always be joyful,
May your song always be sung,
May you stay forever young,
Forever young, forever young,
May you stay forever young.
if only it was so easy...children are brilliant. I love the lyrics above... :-) Hugs
ReplyDeleteIs that an actual pic of you and your daughter at the end?
ReplyDeleteKids have a wonderful view of the world. Me and the Mrs went to a "couples retreat" once and one of the topics was kind of like this. Had to do with communication and keeping it simple.
